Moçambique deposita o instrumento que ratifica o Tratado de Marraquexe

Mozambique Deposits the Instrument Ratifying the Marrakesh Treaty

January 27, 2026   |   Geneva, Switzerland

Our country has completed the deposit of the instrument of ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty, an act that took place yesterday, January 27, in the city of Geneva, Switzerland. The ceremony was held at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), with Roberto Dove, Director General of the National Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries (INICC, IP), serving as the Mozambican Government’s representative for the occasion, and Ms. Anna Morawiec Mansfield, Legal Counsel, representing that United Nations organization.

This treaty is a milestone for social inclusion, as it ensures that copyright does not become an obstacle for millions of people with visual impairments worldwide. Through Resolution No. 10/2021 of December 27, Mozambique ratified this international agreement with the aim of removing legal barriers that hinder access to education, science, culture, and information for national citizens who are blind, visually impaired, or face other difficulties accessing printed text.

In this way, libraries and authorized institutions will be able to reproduce copyrighted works in accessible formats without the need for prior authorization from the copyright holders, as well as promote the production of books in accessible formats (such as Braille, audio, or large print) and the cross-border exchange of these works, thereby avoiding the duplication of efforts by the countries that are signatories to the treaty.
